What it does

That combination makes hooves the default choice for mountains, snowy biomes, and anywhere the terrain is vertical. For big drops you want the Stabilizer instead. Hooves reduce fall damage; the stabilizer can cancel it.

Frost Walker

Hooves accept the Frost Walker enchantment, applied at an anvil from an enchanted book.

A horse wearing enchanted hooves leaves a trail of frosted ice as it runs over water, exactly like a player in frost-walker boots. Rivers, lakes, and coastline stop being obstacles. You just ride across.

Built for speed

The freeze keeps up with a fast horse. At 15+ blocks per second the freeze radius scales up with your speed, so you don’t outrun the ice and drop through a gap in the trail.

Frost Walker freezes water. Lava is still lava. Riding into it will kill your horse regardless of what it’s wearing.

Disabling

Hooves can be switched off server-side with the hooves config toggle. Disabled, the item stays craftable in dummy mode as a decorative model but grants no effects. See Configuration.
